We have had a great start back to school at both McClelland and Gonic. I have really loved getting to know my new students!!! ... And getting reacquainted with the ones I know well already. We have learned a catchy tune called "School is Back in Session" and played a name game to start us off well. The song is available here through a site called kid tunes. Many songs we sing in music are available to download there. They typically cost $.99. YOU WILL NEED AN ADULT TO HELP YOU!
This week in music we are exploring music by using centers in our classroom. Each students will have the opportunity to create and play. Instruments played this week are guitar, tenor ukulele, soprano ukulele, concert ukulele, auto harp, and boomwhackers. Students explored each of the instruments independently at first. With the boomwhackers kids created an ostinato (repeated rhythmic pattern) and then played with a friend to create a cool music piece.
Kiddos enjoyed creating music symbols out of pipe cleaners as well. They made treble clefs, bass clefs, whole, half, quarter, eighth sixteenth notes and rests. They learned more about music notation from Mr. Dumont who is student teaching with us through October. He is studying Music Education at Plymouth State University. We are so lucky to have him to sing and play with here at school. He is a fabulous teacher!!!
