We have begun a new unit in grades 3, 4 ,5 with ukuleles- Ukulele Karate. Students will be working towards their black belt in Ukulele! Each belt requires different notes, skills and music knowledge! I will post the pages under the "ukulele" tab in the "For the Kiddos" link. He is the first page for you!

We have been taking a look at the Civil Rights movement in class. Such topics as kindness, character and justice have stirred up some of our countries most beautiful and beloved songs! This week we sang "We Shall Overcome" in hopes that we will remember to treat each other kindly as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. has taught the world. Here is another song for you to sing! Can you figure out the tune?
If you are looking for a video or song we did in class check out this link here or go to the "Inside Music Class" tab and click :class media and fun."
As many of you know I have been working very hard this year to provide new opportunities for my students. With tight budgets everywhere the money for these opportunities is not always available. My music classroom is so fortunate to have received numerous donations this year through an organization called donorschoose.org! We have received 17 soprano ukuleles, 10 home ukulele kits (with cases, tuners and extra strings), a Recording King Banjolele (a banjo and ukulele hybrid), a pineapple ukulele, a baritone ukulele, a new rug, and a digital piano! WOW! These wonderful additions would not be possible without the generous giving from many people in our community (including some sweet family members - Thanks especially to Mom and Dad Pedrick!) and from complete strangers who give because they believe music education is so very important! If you would like to give to our music classroom you can follow the above link and check out our new projects at Donors Choose. Thanks again so much to all who give to education! This year's Christmas Spectacular for both McClelland School and Gonic School was amazing! The kids worked so hard to put our show together and their dedication really shined at each concert! I was also very impressed with how smoothly arrival and dismissal was at each event. Thanks to the parents and teachers for following procedure- it really helped keep everything flowing and safe. A big shout out to the staff at both schools for singing, dancing and acting with the kids this year! They loved it... I could tell you did as well. ;-) I CANNOT WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR!!! Great job everyone! |
