1st and 2nd Grade
1st and 2nd graders have focused in on getting a solid foundation of beat, meter, and rhythm.
BEAT - is the heart beat of music
METER - the measure of music into groups of 2, 3, and 4 beats
RHYTHM - rhythm is the pattern of the beat
Understanding of these concepts have pushed students forward to beginnings of notation reading.

3rd Grade
3rd grade has worked very hard to learned the lines and spaces of the staff.
We say: "thumbs up for music" and use our hands as a tool to use our mnemonic devices.
"Every Good Boy Does Fine- on the lines" F - A - C - E - face - don't you forget it!"
We will use this knowledge to insure our success in March as we begin to play recorders!!!
Students may bring a recorder from home to practice on, however I do provide a clean recorder for each child to use. A recorder left at home is a great tool for kids to practice outside of music class!

4th Grade
The 4th graders have been studying music history, most specifically the Romantic Period.
The romantic period is fun to talk about because of the rich stories that got tied to the music of the romantic composers.
4th graders also enjoyed a review unit on note reading and playing the recorder. Many were surprised that the recorder was so much more manageable and "easier" than in 3rd grade. It is such a pleasure to see how far they kids come from one year to the next!

5th Grade
The fifth graders are busily working a a music research project. Each pair of students chose either a composer or instrument to learn about. We have the great opportunity to incorporate technology such as iPads, make makes, and chromebooks with music! Student will present their research in an amazing way using the make make to help show and tell what they have learned. IT WILL BE A PRESENTATION LIKE NO OTHER!!!!
